A rare Swedish Gustavian period painted secretary clock from Stockholm in the early 19th century with drop-front desk. This exquisite Swedish two-part 'clockskap' features an upper footed clock, sitting upon a drop-front desk and a two-door cabinet below. The clock face bears the makers signature and provenance of Stockholm. The drop-front opens up to reveal multiple inner drawers, offering great storage options. Finishing the ensemble, two lower doors open to two large inner shelves. The piece is raised on four tapered feet. The clock and cabinet have their original paint finish in a light white with a soft blue accent color, typical of the Scandinavian taste for soft palettes, aiming at brightening the dark, long winters of Sweden. Comes complete with its original clockworks, pendulum and weights. The clockworks have been cleaned and adjusted.

These items are antique and therefore show signs of wear and patinas consistent with their age and history and are sold “as is.” The clock mechanisms are generally basic and rustic in nature. They do not resemble the refined mechanisms of clockmakers of today. As such, they cannot be described as reliable timepieces and are often bought for their style, appearance, and character. While the clock mechanism works, they are sold on the understanding it is not made to the same standards of modern-day clock movements and may require balancing to even the pendulum swing and servicing/cleaning to ensure its continued working.
