This is a gorgeous example of Swedish style, with its intricate detailed carvings and hand painted gold accents.This clock has a wonderfully carved crown headdress accented with touches of gold. This beautiful clock is painted in soft cream paint with detailed gold pinstriping on its body. It is from the Frelleborg region of Sweden and carries the maker's mark of "JPAS" and the date of "1864" on its face. Another piece of this clocks provenance is the fact that its creator numbered it (#17). It has a unique half-moon shaped glass door in its body which is the symbol of salt in Sweden telling us that this clock originated in a village near the ocean or seashore. These items are antique and therefore show signs of wear and patinas consistent with their age and history and are sold “as is.” The clock mechanisms are generally basic and rustic in nature. They do not resemble the refined mechanisms of clockmakers of today. As such, they cannot be described as reliable timepieces and are often bought for their style, appearance, and character. While the clock mechanism works, they are sold on the understanding it is not made to the same standards of modern-day clock movements and may require balancing to even the pendulum swing and servicing/cleaning to ensure its continued working.
